Communicating confidently is essential if you are going to be successful no matter what role you play, whether you’re a salon/spa owner, manager or a service technician. The way in which we communicate can have a huge effect on our overall success.
Effective communication skills help you to be heard, to get your message out to your team members, your customers, your coworkers, etc. Now don’t forget communication is a two-way street. When you master effective communication skills, you will not only be able to get your point across, you will be able to understand others, address their concerns, and manage their expectations. So, you see individuals that communicate confidently ultimately build better relationships with internal and external customers and have an enhanced personal satisfaction.
There is a huge misconception around communication. When we think of someone communicating confidently, we often think well they have a large vocabulary or perhaps it’s someone that is great at debating and getting his/her point across. Communicating confidently has nothing to do with how large your vocabulary is or how well you are at getting your point across.
Communication involves three main components and only 7% of our message is interpreted by others from the words that you use. So, you see it truly doesn’t matter how large your vocabulary is.
The 3 main components of communicating confidently are:
Once again, 7% of your message is interpreted by your WORDS; the actual words that you select to interject into your conversations.
35% of your message is interpreted by your TONE; the rate, the volume and pitch in which you say those words.
58% of you message is interpreted by your BODY language; your posture, gestures, facial expressions and yes, even your physical appearance.
So, I guess that old statement, “It’s NOT what you say; It’s HOW you say it,” is true…
To help you communicate confidently, make certain you’re focusing your attention and energy on your TONE and your BODY language. This is one sure way to improve your level of confidence. No matter to whom you’re speaking, you will act confidently and positively.
