For the second season, Global Beauty Masters will showcase the creative talent of hair, make-up and nail artists in an intense competition, televised on TLC. What has become known as the World Cup of Beauty, Global Beauty Masters, is helping bring light to the true artistry of hair, make-up and nails with a series of challenges completed by teams from all over the globe. For the past 2 years, Millennium has been a proud supporter of Global Beauty Masters, and in its inaugural year, a Day of Beauty.
We had the opportunity to speak with Global Beauty Masters’ Emmy nominated Director, Jim Milio, to share with viewers the inspiration behind the show and a little bit about a Day of Beauty.
Q: Jim, working in the industry, many viewers are familiar with the Global Beauty Masters competition from its presence at industry shows, like ABS Chicago. For viewers who may not work within the beauty industry, or who have not attended one of these larger shows, can you tell them what Global Beauty Masters is?
Jim: Global Beauty Masters is the World Cup of beauty. Talented, 3 person teams of hair, make-up and nail artists from America and around the world compete to create striking looks through a series of difficult challenges. A separate student Global Beauty Masters competition that involves teams from beauty schools is also showcased.
Q: What was the inspiration behind bringing this intense competition to television?
Jim: There are numerous fashion shows on television, but Global Beauty Masters is the only series depicting salon artists in a hair, make-up and nail competition.
Q: Given that there are several fashion shows on television, what makes Global Beauty Masters different, other than the focus on hair, make-up and nails?
Jim: Global Beauty Masters opens a window on a world people only think they know. Most people get their hair done on a regular basis, but have little idea of the training or true artistry that these magicians of beauty possess. It’s thrilling to see what these teams can create under tough deadlines and with limited tools.
Q: What should new and returning viewers expect in season 2?
Jim: Every episode is filled with unexpected challenges…..create an avante Garde look from $20.00 of items you buy at a .99 store, perform a makeover on cancer survivors, create memorable runway models using only grey scale make-up. There are also numerous expert tips in every episode that the home viewer can use themselves on an everyday basis. The series features a number of colorful competitors who liven up the proceedings with their amazing talents and heartwarming personal stories.
Q: Millennium has had the opportunity to work with the amazing Global Beauty Masters team for 2 seasons. Can you share who the team behind this successful show is, and who viewers can expect to see on season 2?
Jim: In front of the camera, industry experts like John Paul DeJoria, Sam Villa, Charlie Price, Amy Becker, Robert Cromeans, and numerous others appear as mentors, presenters and judges. Behind the camera, Executive Producers Mina Lu and Jeanette Buerling Milio have put together an impressive team led by Three Time People’s Choice Award winner Jim Milio, who writes and directs this season.
Q: This year, on March 15th, we celebrate a Day of Beauty. Can you tell us a little bit about the mission of a Day of Beauty and how salons can get involved?
Jim: The Day of Beauty is a way to celebrate the launch of Global Beauty Masters. Cosmo Prof stores and salons around the country will be offering special discounts, free product samples and hosting show participants form the Global Beauty Masters TV series.
