Get out the gels and pomades! This is a really exciting time for men’s barbering and hair salons. Guys are now looking to be groomed, and the great thing about this is it requires more upkeep, which allows you to boost your Frequency of Visit, which builds a better relationship with your guys. I have some of the best relationships with my male clients who come in on a 1 to 2 week schedule and most of them have been coming to me for over 7 years.
So lets talk about a couple of the latest trends right now. First on the list is The Pompadour. This trend is still growing in popularity. I know this because I filmed a Pompadour haircut step-by-step video for my youtube channel in October of last year and it has been watched by 1,500,000 people, and is still getting over 15,000 views a day. The easiest way to describe a Pompadour is a clean fade on the sides up to the parietal ridge with a disconnected top. There are many variations of this cut and style so I would suggest googling it and looking through the images.
The second haircut that I love right now is The Quiff, which is a very classic 1950’s look. This haircut is similar to the Pompadour, but is a more clean cut style with less disconnection on the sides and top. This haircut looks great on your more professional/conservative clientele.
The third trend that is growing in popularity, and I see a lot of guys getting even more daring with this as we move into summer is the shaved in part. This is a quick and easy detail you can add to most of your male clients that makes it easier for them to find their parting, and also gives their haircut more definition. Just part their hair and use your trimmer to define it.
My salon has a split 50% male and 50% female clientele. I love having a strong male presence at the salon because they are consistent, loyal, and will always take your advice as the professional when it comes to style. Make sure that you are always studying the latest trends so that you can give your guys options and coach them on how to recreate the style when they get home.
